Insurance & Reimbursement

While services are not covered by OHIP, many extended health benefit plans provide partial or full reimbursement for sessions with a Registered Social Worker (RSW).

Questions to ask your provider:

  • Am I covered for psychotherapy or counselling with an RSW?
  • Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
  • Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?
  • Do I need written approval from my primary care physician for services to be covered?

Direct Billing

We offer direct billing to many extended health insurance providers, which may reduce your out-of-pocket costs.

Please note:

  • Eligibility varies depending on your provider and individual plan
  • Any uncovered amounts will be billed directly to you
  • A valid credit card must be on file for any remaining balances

Please notify us in advance if you would like to setup direct billing and have your insurance details available for your first appointment.

NHIB (Non-Insured Health Benefits) Program

We are proud to offer services through the NHIB Program, which covers counselling for First Nations and Inuit clients who are eligible for Non-Insured Health Benefits.

Key details:

  • Coverage includes counselling with a Registered Social Worker (RSW)
  • Pre-approval is typically required and we would be happy to guide you through this process
  • Our services are offered in a culturally safe, trauma-informed, and inclusive space

Please contact us if you are eligible and would like support initiating services under NHIB.

VAC and CAF Approved Provider

We are an approved provider with Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

This means:

  • We can provide counselling services to eligible veterans, active CAF members, and RCMP personnel
  • Sessions are often covered in full, and we bill directly to VAC or CAF approved programs
  • We recognize the unique lived experiences of service members and strive to offer a respectful, strengths-based, and supportive environment

If you are a veteran or currently serving, please contact us to learn how we can help you access your entitled supports.

Cancellation & Late Policy

Please provide at least 24 hours notice for appointment cancellations or changes to avoid being charged the full session fee.

If you are running late, please let us know via email. Sessions will end at the originally scheduled time, and if you arrive more than 15 minutes late, your sessions may need to be rescheduled.

We understand that emergencies and life disruptions occur, please reach out so we can discuss your circumstances with care and understanding.

Tax-deductible

Counselling provided by a Registered Social Worker (RSW) is considered a medical expense under the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Since 2012, these services have been eligible for tax deduction on your income tax return.
